Sea lions have a rather excitable energy giving me spring vibes. They are exceptionally playful and ready to make new friends. Described as the puppies of the sea they look right into your eyes and offer a cheeky invitation to play with them. I’ve been so blessed to swim with them in the wild and it was an experience I’ll never forget. They come up to humans of their own accord and are genuinely interested in you.
In this little piece I’ve sought to capture this movement and the light-hearted playfulness. I’ve used pieces of yellow and purple to create a bounce to the colour and vibrancy. Plywood timber panel has been left raw in a self border to give a glimpse into the substrate and it creates an organic feel to the piece. It creates a nice undertone to the vivacious blue of the sea.
