Come with me on a journey into the deep blue. Where life is in abundance and diversity is all around you. Fish of all colours and shapes dart here and there moving to an invisible rhythm. The current guiding them in a coordinated dance above bright corals. Surrounded by deep vivid blue this is a world unlike any other. These are the waters of Indonesia, near Komodo Island.

I was so inspired by the memories I have taken home with me from diving these beautiful waters that I have created this series to capture the things I have seen.

‘Dolphin Play’ is an exploration of the fun and playful impact that dolphins have in their ocean home. Spinner dolphins abound in Indonesian waters and watching them flip and spin their bodies is an absolute delight. I’ve kept the tone and the scene here quite light in a reflection of the lighthearted way dolphins appear to me. In the foreground you can see a school of diagonal banded sweetlips who cling together for protection even though they completely stand out. The scene is completed with various vibrant and colourful corals including a basket coral that you so often see in these waters. Other species seen here include delicate vagabond butterflyfish and busy schools of small blue green chromis.

As with all my pieces I take great care to represent the right species in the right place. I take my own photographs and study the fish and coral species to allow me to bring to life a true version of the underwater environment. It allows me to learn more about the places I love and helps me share the unique inhabitants that live there.
